PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Parents can play many roles in sport: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or critic. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sport more than coaches.  Here at DUF, we invite our parents to be actively engaged in your child's experience to help make it a positive one! We have set the bar high for our organization to keep our sidelines an encouraging and safe space for players from both teams, coaches, referees, and all spectators! When other teams are yelling at refs, players, and coaches the Driftless crowd can be heard encouraging each other and being kind.  Welcome to this unique family! We are glad to have you!

How to help your child be prepared for Soccer!

1. Proper equipment for soccer includes athletic clothing, shin guards, soccer socks that completely cover shin guards, cleats, and a soccer ball. Players should also bring their own water bottle to each practice. For games players need complete uniform!

2. Your child should arrive to practice 10 min early so they are ready to start on time! Players should arrive 30 min prior to game time to get properly warmed up.

3. Help your player get into the proper mindset.  When they arrive they should check gear, place items including water bottles in the proper location, be ready to work hard, listen carefully, and encourage their teammates. Help your child understand the expectations as set by your coach and the organization.

NOTE: We have limited time with the players and plan to be punctual with our start times. Players who arrive late will miss vital instruction and may be asked to wait until a good transition time to join in, as it is often time consuming and disruptive once an activity has already started. We understand things come up and everyone runs a little late at times. Please discuss with your player in those instances that they may need to wait patiently for a good transition time before they are able to jump into an activity that has already started.

Communication is KEY!

Weather Related Information:

Weather changes quickly in Wisconsin, so ALWAYS check your email and or text messages prior to leaving for practices and games. We will do our best to communicate as quickly and efficiently as possible about any changes that may occur. Our goal is to make weather related changes by 2pm.

Team Communication:

What we have found is that there are varying needs and desires when it comes to what the ideal form and frequency of communication is for each person. With Sports Engine you have complete control of how you would like to receive information and updates and how often from your team. We recommend using the Sports Engine App available in the Apple App Store and Google Play, and bookmarking the driftlessunitedathletics.org website for quick reference. Also be sure you know how to navigate to your players team page on the website.

PARENTS AND ATHLETES

With their accounts properly configured, athletes and their families will receive communications according to their preferences and be able to complete registrations more efficiently.  SportsEngine has created a Team Management Guide for Parents and Athletes that will help our members with frequently asked questions about our website and mobile app.
